Can't We All Just Get Along?

Everyone has heard this at some point in time or maybe from their parents, especially brothers and sisters! It is an interesting statement though when it comes to the Christian life. So, why can’t we as Christians, get along? Well, first of all we are all people and we all have issues we’re dealing with. That’s one big reason we can’t seem to get along. We all come from different social, economic and religious backgrounds and this is usually another source for the question at hand. Let me throw a wrench into that machine of division though! How about the fact that Jesus died and willingly gave Himself for all of us! The key word here is ALL! If you never receive the Love of Jesus, I have news for you; He still loves you and died for you. I’ll go a step further; He still loves those who have died without loving Him. The bible says He’s the same yesterday, today and forever! Well, if that’s so, He loves… from the first human to the last human conceived! So, if He loves us and that will never change or diminish, based on what we do, then why can’t Christians get over some of the differences of the past or belief systems and get along? I know I may get some criticism for this ideal, but I’m speaking to those who claim to love Jesus. It’s time we act like it by loving each other. We can set aside some of the hair splitting doctrinal disagreements we have and move forward together as the body of Christ, unified under the common belief that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life! It’s this unity as Jesus followers that make us a force to be reckoned with and agents of peace in a chaotic world. When those who don’t believe in Jesus yet, see those who call themselves believers arguing and dividing over petty differences, then what would make them desire what we have? On the flip side though, if they see us being loving and understanding through our differences, then that might actually attract them to the way we are. Now, I don’t think we should all live on a patch of land and everything should be common to everyone, but I do believe we have things in common! I believe we should celebrate our commonalities as believers and shelf things that divide us. Do I think this will happen worldwide or even in Granbury? Well… I’d like to think we could get closer to this ideal than further away. It’s not really the destination as much as the journey that marks who we are. Life’s too short for the church to be divided and wrangling about who’s right! The truth is, that we will all stand before Jesus and say “I was wrong about that too?!” Let’s Pursue Love and Discover Our Good Life!
